Review of Ms. Splosion Man for Xbox Live Arcade

I never bothered to play the original “Splosion Man”, so I went into this game blind. But does it live up to it’s ten dollar price tag? Read on to find out!

Sound: Okay, so in order for you to understand how the sound in this game is, think of all the chatty highschool girls you’ve ever met talking all at once. That’s Ms. Splosion Man for you. In the beginning her pop-culture references are fun and welcome, but eventually her voice starts to drive you insane. As for the music, it’s good but not very memorable. Sound: 8.5/10

Presentation: The cartoony visuals are a colorful treat for the eyes, and the game always runs smoothly. Presentation: 9/10

Gameplay: The basic formula for Ms. Splosion man is that you have to get from point A to point B using only three jumps and a huge variety of power-ups. As simple as that sounds, this game is hard. So hard, in fact, that I can easily say it’s the most challenging game I’ve ever played. You will die trying to beat the first few levels, let alone the entire fifty of the single player camaign. Now, although it is very difficult it’s also extremely fun and satisfying to beat, so don’t let the challenge discourage you. Gameplay: 9/10

Multiplayer: Two ‘splosions are just as good as one. The multiplayer campaign is a blast (no pun intended) and if you don’t manage to find a partner to play with, the game even offers an option to control both characters with one controller. Multiplayer: 9/10

Length: For the price tag, this game delivers above and beyond anything you’d expect. On top of a five hour single player and multiplayer campaign, the game also includes unlockable avatar items, premium themes and gamerpics which is an estimated ten dollar value (the same price of the game itself). So for the cost, this little arcade game packs a big punch. Length: 10/10

Overall: This game gets 9.1 ‘splosions out of 10. If you can brave the difficulty, this game gives a lot of bang for the buck and is a blast to play.
