Review of Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics for Wii

Since I’ve just done a review of Mario and Sonic at the Summer Olympics, I thought I should follow-up with a review of Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics. So, here’s the review!

Sound: Good music, especially the Mario and Sonic game soundtracks for the dream events. This game gives your ear-buds a lot to look forward to. Sound: 9.5/10

Presentation: Nothing impressive about the graphics, quite frankly. They look a little shabby, even for Wii standards. Presentation: 5.5/10

Gameplay: The most important part of any game is the actual gameplay, so how do Mario and Sonic do when combined? For the most part, well. Games with impressively good controls and enjoyable objectives include snowboarding, dream snowball fighting, figure skating and skeleton. Then there are the impressively bad games, which include speed skating, ice hockey and dream gliding, which have awkward controls and boring gameplay. There are loads of other games included as well, but despite the fact that they’re mildly fun, they’re not original or able to hold your interest for very long. For the most part though, Mario and Sonic give a very wide variety of winter sports to enjoy, and all of them are playable, to some extent. Gameplay: 8/10

Multiplayer: More fun than playing single player, for sure. Events are a lot more competitive and enjoyable when faced with an actual friend to play with, rather than with an AI. Multiplayer: 9/10

Length: With a large variety of mini games, winter sports, dream events and a huge character roster, this game should keep your interest for many hours. Length: 8/10

Overall: This game gets 8/10. It’s a fun party game, but not an extraordinary one like it could have been.
